Peter Shergold AC completed his term as Chair of the Board of Directors in March 2025. Under his leadership, the Institute has established itself as a trusted partner of government and universities. His strategic vision has been crucial in driving the Institute’s expansion and enhancing its impact on major government priorities.
Combining deep expertise in both public service and academic roles, Professor Shergold has served as the nation’s most senior public servant, as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and as Chancellor of Western Sydney University for over a decade. He was appointed the Independent Chair of the Australian Research Council in 2024 and serves as Vice President of the Royal Society of NSW.
After many decades of searching, I found my intellectual home in the Institute. This unique, groundbreaking model ensures that expertise can better inform government policy.
