About the project
Dr Mia Harrison and Anna Cain (UNSW) joined APPI as Policy Fellows (Academic Stream) in April 2026 to conduct a policy research project that addresses a key policy gap: while consumer energy resources (CER) are expanding rapidly, current policy does not fully reflect the everyday constraints and needs of diverse households, particularly in Western Sydney. It analyses how housing conditions, socioeconomic factors and lived experience shape the uptake and benefits of CER, and where current policy settings fall short. The project will deliver clear, evidence-based insights to help policymakers design more equitable, practical and effective CER policies that improve wellbeing and support the energy transition.
